The Women’s National Selection Committee has announced a 15-member Pakistan squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled from 30 September to 2 November in India and Sri Lanka. The same squad will also feature in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, to be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, from 16 to 22 September.
For the first time, all-rounder Fatima Sana will captain Pakistan in the World Cup. The 23-year-old had previously led the side in the ICC Women’s CWC Qualifier held in Lahore earlier this year, where Pakistan secured qualification with an unbeaten run.
The squad includes uncapped right-handed batter Eyman Fatima, who recently made her T20I debut against Ireland and is now set for her maiden ODI assignment. Six other players – Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Syeda Aroob Shah – are also poised to make their ODI World Cup debuts. Notably, Aroob (21), Shawaal (20) and Eyman (20) were part of Pakistan’s squad in the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in 2023.
Pakistan will play all their group-stage fixtures at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, starting against Bangladesh on 2 October. The marquee clash against India is scheduled for 5 October, followed by matches against Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Should Pakistan progress, the semi-final (29 October) and final (2 November) will also be held in Colombo.
Two changes have been made from the side that featured in the Qualifier earlier this year: Eyman Fatima and Sadaf Shamas come in, while Gull Feroza and Najiha Alvi move to the five-member non-travelling reserves, joined by Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani and Waheeda Akhtar.
The squad will undergo a 14-day pre-series camp starting 29 August in Lahore, featuring training sessions and 50-over practice matches under the guidance of head coach Muhammad Wasim. South Africa will arrive in Lahore on 12 September for the ODI series, which serves as a crucial preparation for the World Cup.
