The Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has made history in Pakistan with a record-breaking opening day collection of PKR 3.5 crore. This marks the highest-ever debut for an Indian film in the country, surpassing the previous record held by Salman Khan’s Sultan (2016).
Despite inflation and a shrunken cinema market, the film drew packed audiences across Punjab’s urban centres. Theatres reported housefull shows, fueled by curiosity over the India-Pakistan political tensions and Hania Aamir’s controversial casting. Within two days of its June 27 release, the film amassed Rs. 11.03 crore worldwide, including Rs. 4.32 crore on Day 1 and Rs. 6.71 crore on Day 2.
Sardaar Ji 3 now ranks as the third-highest global opener for a Punjabi film, behind Jatt & Juliet 3 and Carry On Jatta. Industry analysts note its Friday release likely boosted weekend numbers.
The film skipped an India release due to backlash over Hania Aamir’s involvement after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu confirmed this decision caused a 40% revenue loss, as India contributed 40% of their previous hit Jatt & Juliet 3’s earnings . Diljit Dosanjh defended the overseas release, stating producers prioritized recouping investments amid geopolitical constraints .
The record-setting response underscores Punjabi cinema’s cross-border appeal despite diplomatic strains. Sidhu affirmed he would avoid casting Pakistani artists in future projects, citing “changed circumstances”.
Sardaar Ji 3 is currently screening in Pakistan, Canada, USA, Australia, the Middle East, and other international markets.
