In a landmark development for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal has officially accepted the Pakistan Cricket Board’s renewal offer, securing the franchise rights for the next decade. The decision fortifies the continued presence of one of the league’s most influential teams as the PSL enters a new era of expansion and commercial maturity.
The renewal underscores a journey that began in 2015 when Salman Iqbal made a bold and unprecedented move to acquire the PSL’s most expensive franchise at a time when international cricket in Pakistan had come to a halt. His investment, widely viewed as a vote of confidence in Pakistan’s cricketing revival, became a foundational pillar of the league’s early success.
Reflecting on this long-standing commitment, Salman Iqbal said the renewal was not just a business decision but a continuation of a mission.
“In 2015, we were the ones who stepped up to bring cricket back. We trusted the PCB and the PSL concept when international teams were not touring Pakistan. Our acquisition of the league’s most expensive franchise was a concrete act of faith in our nation’s cricketing future,” he said.
“We didn’t just buy a team; we invested in the restoration of Pakistan’s cricketing glory. This renewal is our commitment to continue that legacy of leadership.”
Karachi Kings CEO Tariq Wasi echoed this sentiment, calling the renewal a reaffirmation of the franchise’s vision and shared purpose with the PCB.
“I am thoroughly happy with the decision to renew our partnership with the PSL for another ten years,” he said. “We look forward to another decade of progress, success, and growth — not just for the Karachi Kings, but for the entire HBL PSL ecosystem.”
From its inception, Karachi Kings have been at the forefront of consolidating the league’s commercial strength, playing a central role in establishing sponsorship value, broadcast appeal, and overall league credibility. The franchise’s leadership was instrumental in strengthening the PSL at a time when domestic cricket needed a modern, commercially viable platform.
Beyond the financial and administrative support, the Kings have contributed to the national cricketing landscape by nurturing young talent through structured development programmes. Initiatives such as Sindh Ke Shehzady and Khilari Ki Khoj laid the groundwork for scouting and grooming players from remote regions. The franchise’s talent identification efforts have helped spotlight future stars, including the meteoric Shahnawaz Dahani — who went on to represent Pakistan — and emerging fast bowler Fawad Ali from Swat.
Over the past decade, numerous Karachi Kings players have graduated to the national team, reflecting the franchise’s sustained focus on development, opportunity, and high-performance culture.
As the PSL expands and prepares to welcome new teams, the Karachi Kings — under Salman Iqbal’s leadership — continue to position themselves at the centre of the league’s growth trajectory. The next 10 years, franchise officials say, will be dedicated to strengthening competitive depth, elevating fan engagement, and enhancing the PSL’s global footprint.
The franchise expressed its gratitude to Karachi Kings supporters, acknowledging their unwavering passion and loyalty, and thanked the PCB for its continued trust as both organisations prepare for the league’s next phase.
