Quetta Gladiators continued their red-hot form in PSL X with a third consecutive win, dismantling Multan Sultans by 10 wickets in a lopsided affair at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Tuesday night. The dominant win lifted Gladiators to second place on the points table with four victories in six matches, while Multan’s season went from bad to worse — suffering their sixth defeat in seven games.
Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad was the architect of Quetta’s win, delivering a sensational spell of 4 for 23 in four overs to reduce the Sultans to rubble. His opening burst yielded four wickets in just 11 deliveries, triggering a collapse from which the Sultans never recovered. Supported by Mohammad Wasim Jnr (2-18) and Faheem Ashraf (2-21), Quetta’s pace unit bundled Multan out for their lowest-ever total in PSL history — a dismal 89 in 17 overs.
Multan’s innings was derailed early, with wickets tumbling rapidly. After Khurram’s early strikes, Faheem chipped in by removing Iftikhar Ahmed and Michael Bracewell in successive overs to leave the Sultans reeling at 43-6. Only captain Mohammad Rizwan offered resistance with a valiant run-a-ball 44, striking three fours and a six. Usama Mir (11) was the only other batter to reach double digits.
In reply, Quetta’s opening pair made light work of the modest chase. Finn Allen and Saud Shakeel sealed the victory in just 6.5 overs with an unbroken 90-run stand. Allen hammered 45* off 21 balls, while Saud blazed 42* off 20, as the duo combined for nine sixes and five fours in a ruthless batting display.
