Islamabad United have announced the appointment of Luke Ronchi as the franchise’s new Head Coach, marking the return of one of the most influential and beloved figures in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.
A fan favourite during his playing days with Islamabad United, Ronchi is widely regarded as one of the most impactful overseas players the league has seen. His fearless batting, ability to perform under pressure, and leadership presence played a defining role in shaping the modern T20 intent of the PSL.
Ronchi was central to Islamabad United’s most memorable campaigns, delivering match-winning performances that have since become part of PSL folklore. Beyond statistics, his connection with the Islamabad United fanbase has remained strong long after his retirement from playing, making his return a moment of emotional and symbolic significance for the franchise.
Announcing the appointment, Islamabad United Owner Ali Naqvi said Ronchi’s bond with the team is unlike any other.
“Luke Ronchi is Islamabad United through and through, a true sheru. He’s one of the most iconic and impactful overseas players this league has ever seen, and his bond with Islamabad United is unique. As we say, once a sheru always a sheru,” Naqvi said.
He added that the franchise was delighted to secure Ronchi’s services this season.
“He understands our culture, our standards, and what it truly means to represent Islamabad United. We’re excited to welcome him back, this time as Head Coach.”
Speaking on his appointment, Ronchi said Islamabad United has always felt like home to him.
“The bond I share with this team, the owners, the fans, and the entire ISLU family is something genuinely special. I’ve always carried that connection with pride,” he said.
“To return now as Head Coach is a huge honour. Islamabad United stands for fearless cricket, character, and a winning mindset. I’m excited to carry that legacy forward and help develop the next group of leaders and match-winners for this great team.”
Ronchi’s appointment reflects Islamabad United’s long-standing philosophy of building leaders from within. Alongside his PSL pedigree, Ronchi brings valuable international coaching experience.
