Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali has etched his name into the country’s cricketing history books, breaking a long-standing record held by the legendary Abdul Qadir. Noman has now become the Pakistani bowler with the most wickets in five consecutive Tests, claiming a staggering 46 wickets between his 16th and 20th Test matches.
The 37-year-old spinner surpassed Qadir’s 37-year-old mark of 44 wickets, achieved between the 48th and 52nd Tests of the late great leg-spinner’s career during 1987–88. The feat underscores Noman’s meteoric rise and consistency as a premier spin weapon in Pakistan’s Test setup.
Over the past 12 months, Noman has emerged as the most successful spinner in world cricket, weaving match-winning spells across series at home and abroad. His memorable 10-wicket haul against South Africa in Lahore, a pivotal 16 wickets across two Tests against the West Indies, and an astonishing 20 wickets against England in Multan and Rawalpindi have all contributed to a remarkable run of form that has placed him among the elite in international cricket.
What makes Noman’s achievement particularly significant is the timing — coming at a phase where Pakistan have been rebuilding their red-ball attack and seeking consistency in the spin department. His unerring accuracy, ability to exploit home conditions, and composure under pressure have made him a mainstay of Pakistan’s bowling lineup.
From his debut in 2021 to now, Noman has evolved into a match-winner, carrying forward the legacy of Pakistan’s great spinners. His achievement not only highlights his personal brilliance but also reaffirms the enduring tradition of spin excellence in Pakistan cricket — a lineage that runs from Qadir and Saqlain Mushtaq to Yasir Shah and now, Noman Ali.
