Pakistani TV Anchor Jasmeen Manzoor Accuses Ex-Husband of Domestic Violence, Shares Injury Photos

Prominent Pakistani journalist and TV anchor Jasmeen Manzoor has publicly accused her ex-husband of domestic violence, sharing graphic images of her injuries on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The photos, posted on Wednesday, show severe bruising and swelling on her face, which she claims were the result of physical assault.

In a series of tweets, Manzoor revealed her ordeal, stating:
“This is me. Yes, this is my story—my life was ruined by a violent person. I leave my justice to Allah.”

She explained her decision to speak out after much deliberation:
“This is the doing of my ex-husband. I thought for a long time about whether I should make this public. But I want to show courage so that we can all unite against such behavior and government officials open their eyes.”

Manzoor further described the psychological toll of the abuse, calling her ex-husband a “coward” and warning others:
“This can happen to anyone. No one is safe even inside the house. The most dangerous people are those whom you trust blindly.”

She also claimed to possess 50 more photos documenting the abuse but chose to share only a few to highlight the severity of her situation.

The post quickly went viral, and many users praised her bravery, while others lamented the prevalence of domestic abuse in the country.

Manzoor’s case has reignited discussions about gender-based violence in Pakistan, where 28% of women aged 15-49 have experienced physical violence, according to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (2017-18). Other alarming statistics include:

  • 34% of married women face physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from their spouses.

  • 56% of abused women never seek help due to fear of stigma, financial dependence, or lack of legal awareness.

Women’s rights activists have long demanded stricter enforcement of Pakistan’s Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2021, which remains poorly implemented.

While Jasmeen Manzoor has not announced any legal action, her decision to speak out has already sparked a crucial national conversation. Authorities have yet to respond to her allegations, but pressure is mounting for accountability.
