PCB Parts Ways with Women’s Team Head Coach Mohammad Wasim After World Cup Debacle

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has relieved Mohammad Wasim of his duties as head coach of the national women’s cricket team, following a disappointing campaign at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

In an official statement, the PCB confirmed that the search for a new head coach is already underway, reaffirming its commitment to revamping women’s cricket structures and investing in player development across all levels.

Wasim, who was appointed in 2024 and given full authority over the women’s setup, oversaw a winless World Cup campaign in Colombo. Pakistan lost four matches, while three fixtures were washed out due to rain, finishing near the bottom of the table.

Despite the overall outcome, the team showed flashes of promise — particularly with the ball — delivering commendable bowling spells against Australia and England, two of the tournament’s strongest sides.

All of Pakistan’s matches were staged at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium, where they suffered defeats at the hands of India, Australia, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

The PCB, while acknowledging the disappointing results, expressed optimism that a fresh coaching setup will help the women’s team rebuild ahead of upcoming international assignments.
