The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian Cricket Federation (FCRI), marking a major stride in international cricket cooperation and strengthening sporting diplomacy between the two countries.
The agreement was formalised by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed and FCRI President Maria Lorena Haz Paz, setting the foundation for a long-term partnership aimed at developing both men’s and women’s cricket in Italy. The collaboration comes on the heels of Italy’s successful qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup — a milestone that has placed the European nation firmly on the global cricketing map.
Under the strategic framework, the PCB and FCRI will work closely to enhance Italy’s cricketing structure through technical expertise, capacity-building, and competitive exposure. Key components of the MoU include the exchange of coaching and technical experts, joint training and development programmes, coaching seminars, youth development initiatives, friendly matches, and bilateral tournaments across various levels.
The agreement also emphasises support for Italy’s cricket infrastructure, providing pathways for young players and emerging talent to develop within a structured, internationally aligned system.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed highlighted the importance of the partnership for cricket’s global expansion. He noted that Pakistan, as one of the world’s leading cricketing nations, is committed to supporting emerging cricket regions and strengthening cultural and sporting ties with Italy.
FCRI President Maria Lorena Haz Paz welcomed the collaboration, emphasising that the MoU aligns with Italy’s ambition to elevate its cricketing standards through structured development and international cooperation. She revealed that the federation is also pursuing additional partnerships with foreign cricket boards as part of its broader strategic growth plan.
The PCB expressed confidence that the partnership will foster meaningful progress, benefiting players, coaches, administrators, and fans in both nations. The agreement represents another step in Pakistan’s continued efforts to engage globally and contribute to cricket’s expanding footprint across non-traditional regions.
