PSL Announces Player Auction Model, Expanded Venues and Increased Salary Cap Ahead of Landmark 11th Edition

The Pakistan Super League has unveiled a series of major reforms ahead of its 11th edition, signalling a transformative phase in the League’s evolution as it continues to strengthen its competitive, commercial and structural foundations.

In a historic decision following a decade of operations, PSL 11 will shift from the traditional Player Draft system to a Player Auction Model. This marks one of the most significant changes in the League’s history and is aimed at improving competitive balance, enhancing transparency in player recruitment and creating greater earning opportunities for players.

Under the new player acquisition framework, franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of four players, restricted to one player per category. This represents a sharp reduction from previous seasons, where teams could retain up to eight players, along with additional provisions such as Mentors, Brand Ambassadors and a Right to Match (RTM) option that effectively allowed a ninth retention. All rules relating to Mentors, Brand Ambassadors and RTM have been abolished for PSL 11, simplifying the retention structure and placing greater emphasis on open-market competition through the auction.

In a move designed to ensure competitive parity, newly inducted teams will be permitted to select and retain four players from the available player pool before the Player Auction. Additionally, each franchise will be allowed one direct signing of a foreign player who did not feature in PSL X, enabling teams to strategically inject fresh international talent into their squads.

Further boosting the League’s appeal, the player salary purse has been increased to USD 1.6 million per franchise. The enhanced cap reflects PSL’s commitment to rewarding player performance while positioning the League as an increasingly attractive destination for top-tier domestic and international cricketers.

Beyond structural and financial reforms, the League also announced key developments on the operational front. PSL 11 is scheduled to commence on 26 March 2026, and Faisalabad has been added as an additional host venue. The inclusion of Faisalabad marks the city’s return to the PSL stage and expands the League’s national footprint, reinforcing its objective of taking top-level cricket to a wider audience across Pakistan.

The Pakistan Super League management described these measures as part of its long-term strategic trajectory, aimed at sustaining growth while remaining rooted in its core mission of promoting cricketing excellence, deepening fan engagement and taking the League to unprecedented heights.

Further information regarding the Player Auction process, timelines and detailed operational guidelines is expected to be announced in due course.
