Shan Masood Blazes Unbeaten 212 as President’s Trophy 2025-26 Gets Off to an Eventful Start

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) left-handed opener Shan Masood starred on the opening day of the President’s Trophy 2025-26, smashing an unbeaten 212 to set the tone for a high-octane season.

At the NBP Sports Complex, Shan and fellow opener Ali Zaryab dominated Sahir Associates’ bowling, compiling a mammoth 390-run second-wicket partnership as SNGPL closed the day at 460 for 2 in 82.1 overs. Shan’s innings, his second first-class double century in 2025, featured 18 fours and 2 sixes off 185 balls, and he showed no signs of slowing down as he looks to surpass his career-best of 250 not out, achieved earlier in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26.

Ali Zaryab also impressed, registering his 10th first-class century with 192 runs off 237 balls, including 27 fours and four sixes, before Mohammad Hasnain finally ended his near-double-century knock late in the day. SNGPL’s innings had started with a 53-run opening stand between Ali and Azan Awais (26), before the big partnership took the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Water and Power Development Authority’s (WAPDA) Aqib Khan stole the headlines with the ball, taking an exceptional 6 for 18 to bowl Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) out for 116 at the National Bank Stadium. WAPDA closed the day at 75-4, trailing by 41 runs, with Sharoon Siraj unbeaten on 37.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Ghani Glass were 67-2 in reply to OGDCL’s 196, with Sharjeel Khan unbeaten on 38. Earlier, a resilient 58-run knock by Mushtaq Ahmed had propelled Ghani Glass to a competitive total despite a top-order collapse.

At the State Bank Stadium, SBP enjoyed a strong start against Pakistan Television (PTV), holding a slim 7-run lead at 106-4, powered by Hasan Raza’s patient 39 not out. SBP’s Mohammad Ismail (5-27) and Kashif Ali (4-19) had earlier ripped through PTV’s batting, bundling them out for just 99.

The opening day of the President’s Trophy delivered a perfect mix of big centuries, devastating bowling spells, and tantalizing battles across Karachi’s four venues, setting up a thrilling contest for day two.
