Usman Khan Shinwari retires from international cricket

Left-arm fast bowler Usman Khan Shinwari has announced his retirement from international cricket, drawing curtains on a career that spanned six years across formats for Pakistan.

The 31-year-old pacer made his international debut against Sri Lanka in December 2013, becoming Pakistan’s T20I cap 58. He later earned his ODI cap 216 in October 2017 and Test cap 240 in December 2019 – both also against Sri Lanka. He was also part of the national squad that competed in the ACC Men’s ODI Asia Cup 2018.

Shinwari represented Pakistan in one Test, 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, taking a total of 48 international wickets – one in Tests, 34 in ODIs and 13 in T20Is. His standout moments came in the 50-over format, where he produced two memorable five-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka: 5 for 34 at Sharjah in 2017 and 5 for 51 in Karachi in 2019.

Known for his ability to generate pace and swing with the new ball, Shinwari’s international career was hampered by injuries and stiff competition within Pakistan’s pace attack. Nevertheless, he remained a consistent performer in domestic cricket and various T20 leagues around the world.

With his retirement, Shinwari leaves behind a career marked by flashes of brilliance and the distinction of representing Pakistan across all three formats of the game.
