Lahore Qalandars have issued an official statement addressing a recently reported security protocol incident involving members of the squad during the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League.
The franchise confirmed that it had taken serious notice of the matter and immediately launched an internal review to ascertain the facts and ensure compliance with the regulations set by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Following the review, the management acknowledged that an incident did take place at the team hotel. However, it maintained that the situation had been overstated in public discourse and amplified beyond its actual context.
As part of disciplinary measures, Lahore Qalandars announced a voluntary fine of PKR 1 million on captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement, describing the move as a proactive step to uphold accountability and team discipline. The franchise also confirmed that it has submitted a detailed response along with its observations to the PCB.
In its statement, the organisation expressed appreciation for the role of security personnel, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining a safe environment for players, officials, and spectators throughout the tournament.
While emphasising that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate breach, Lahore Qalandars reiterated their respect for all security protocols and standard operating procedures. The franchise also stressed the need for clearer communication and alignment on protocols to avoid similar situations in the future.
The statement further expressed concern over what it termed as “undue public attention” surrounding the matter, noting that the issue had been unnecessarily escalated, potentially impacting the reputation of both the franchise and the HBL Pakistan Super League at domestic and international levels.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and full cooperation with governing authorities, Lahore Qalandars called for responsible and balanced reporting. The franchise concluded by stating that it will not be making any further comments on the matter.
