Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq has been cleared to continue bowling after successfully passing an assessment of his bowling action at the PCB-accredited biomechanics lab in Lahore. The development comes as a major relief for both the player and his franchise midway through PSL X.
Usman was initially reported for a suspect bowling action during Quetta Gladiators’ clash against Lahore Qalandars on 13 April at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown flagged his action during the match, prompting a formal review under the PCB’s protocols for illegal bowling actions.
Following the report, the Quetta Gladiators management formally requested the Pakistan Cricket Board to allow their player to undergo testing. Usman subsequently appeared at the National Biomechanics Lab in Lahore, where his action was put under scrutiny using state-of-the-art motion analysis technology.
After a detailed assessment, it was confirmed that Usman’s action complies with the legal parameters defined by cricket’s governing bodies, thereby clearing him to resume bowling in ongoing and future matches.
According to PCB regulations, a bowler reported for a suspect action is allowed to continue bowling unless and until they fail the official assessment. However, if the same bowler is reported a second time, they are automatically suspended from bowling and must then obtain clearance from an ICC-accredited biomechanics lab before they can return to action.
Usman Tariq’s clearance is timely, as Quetta Gladiators enter a crucial phase of the tournament with key group stage fixtures remaining, including tonight’s important game against Islamabad United in Rawalpindi.
The PCB reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity and fairness in the game through consistent application of rules and world-class testing facilities.
