Babar Azam Sets Sights on History-Making Century in PSL 8 Showdown

The Pakistan Super League 8 is set to take place from 13 February to 19 March in four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. 21 foreign international players and 15 local players will be making their debuts in this edition of the tournament. The matches will be hosted in different cities with Multan hosting five matches, Karachi and Lahore hosting nine matches each, and Rawalpindi hosting 11 games.

These international players will be playing in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the first time. They are: Adil Rashid and Akeal Hosein (both playing for Multan Sultans), Andrew Tye (playing for Karachi Kings), Bhanuka Rajapaksa (playing for Peshawar Zalmi), and Dwaine Pretorius (playing for Quetta Gladiators). Fazalhaq Farooqi, Gus Atkinson (both Islamabad United), Izharulhaq Naveed (Multan Sultans), James Fuller (Karachi Kings), Jimmy Neesham (Peshawar Zalmi), Josh Little (Multan Sultans), Kusal Mendis (Lahore Qalandars), Matthew Wade (Karachi Kings), Naveen-ul-Haq, Nuwan Thushara, Odean Smith (all Quetta Gladiators), Richard Gleeson (Peshawar Zalmi), Shane Dadswell (Lahore Qalandars), Tabraiz Shamsi (Karachi Kings), Tom Curran (Islamabad United) and Wanindu Hasaranga (Quetta Gladiators).

In the PSL 8, 15 local players will debut alongside 21 foreign internationals. The local players include: Aamer Jamal (Peshawar Zalmi), Ahsan Bhatti (Lahore Qalandars), Aimal Khan (Quetta Gladiators), Arafat Minhas (Multan Sultans), Haseebullah (Peshawar Zalmi), Hassan Nawaz (Islamabad United), Irfan Khan Niazi (Karachi Kings), Mirza Tahir Baig (Lahore Qalandars), Mohammad “Karnal” Zahid (Quetta Gladiators), Mohammad Sarwar Afridi (Multan Sultans), Omair Bin Yousuf (Quetta Gladiators), Saud Shakeel (Quetta Gladiators), Shawaiz Irfan (Lahore Qalandars), Sufyan Muqeem (Peshawar Zalmi), and Tayyab Tahir (Karachi Kings).

The 8th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 8) will see Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United competing. Lahore Qalandars aim to make history by becoming the first team to win two consecutive titles, while Islamabad United seeks to secure its place as the first team to win three titles since the start of the PSL in 2016.

In the seven years of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar Azam has accumulated the most runs with 2,413 in 68 matches, however, he is still seeking his first century. Kamran Akmal, who will not be participating in this year’s event, holds the second-highest runs with 1,972 in 75 matches and also holds the record for the most centuries (3). Sharjeel Khan, an explosive opener, has hit two centuries while players such as Fakhar Zaman, Rilee Rossouw, Cameron Delport, Colin Ingram, Chris Lynn, Usman Khawaja, Harry Brook, and Jason Roy have each scored one century.

In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Wahab Riaz of Peshawar Zalmi is the only bowler to have taken over 100 wickets. He has 103 wickets in 77 matches, and is followed by Hasan Ali with 81 wickets, Shaheen Shah Afridi with 70 wickets, and Shadab Khan with 65 wickets.

With Kamran Akmal not participating in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), Mohammad Rizwan of Multan Sultans will look to take his place as the most successful wicketkeeper in the league. Rizwan currently has 60 dismissals and is two behind Kamran, while Sarfaraz Ahmed is third with 43 dismissals.
