From Macho Man to Effeminate Character in Mrs. & Mr. Shameem – Naumaan Ijaz’s Bold Transformation

Zindagi’s YouTube channel will now be streaming the Naumaan Ijaz and Saba Qamar starrer ‘Mrs. & Mr. Shameem’ for Pakistani audience who were unable to watch the series when it first launched, due to the channel’s unavailability in Pakistan. Starting 26th April, where new episodes will drop every Tuesday & Friday.

The show redefines gender roles in a society that is blindfolded by traditional ideals of romance and masculinity. Naumaan Ijaz who plays the role of Shameem challenges stereotypes and breaks new ground in this role. In a departure from his previous portrayals of macho personas like Mera Saeen as the scheming Malik Wajahat, Bari Apa as obedient Farmaan, Rehai as the spiteful Waseem, Naumaan will be stepping into the character of an effeminate man in this show, marking a significant shift in his career graph.

Directed by the talented filmmaker Kashif Nisar, who also directed Zindagi’s upcoming show Pink Shirt had this to say, “Naumaan Ijaz was always his first choice for the lead of Shameem. I was very sure no one else would have been able to do justice to this character as much as Naumaan. From his unwavering dedication towards the nitty-gritty of the role to the discipline that he had on set, Ijaz proved yet another time the finesse that he carries in his work. With Naumaan, it is not just about reading out his lines with expressions, he is a method actor who fully embraces his character. This role however, is bold and different from his previous roles. It takes courage to play the character of an effeminate man so brilliantly despite all the challenges that an actor has to face while portraying a personality onscreen which is very different from his own. We are excited for the audience to see this unusual yet cinematically brilliant side of Naumaan.”

Mrs. & Mr. Shameem is penned by Saji Gul and features a formidable ensemble cast including  Saba QamarGul-e-RanaFaiza GillaniAmna Malick, Samia Butt, Ali Azad, Saqib Sumeer, Irfan Khoosat and others
