Hayley Matthews Shines as West Indies Women Sweep Series Against Pakistan

In a commanding display of batting prowess, West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews led her team to a resounding victory over Pakistan Women in the third ODI, securing a clean sweep of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 fixture with a 3-0 win.

Matthews, who had already made her mark with a stunning century in the series opener, delivered another stellar performance by scoring an impressive 141 runs. Her innings, comprising 19 boundaries, guided her side to a formidable total of 278 for six in 50 overs. Supported by significant contributions from Shemaine Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor, Matthews’ remarkable knock set the stage for a dominant display by the West Indies.

Campbelle’s 38-ball 38 and Taylor’s 62-ball 47 provided crucial partnerships, with Matthews orchestrating a 93-run stand with Campbelle and a further 111-run partnership with Taylor. The West Indies Women’s innings concluded at 250 in the 46th over, with Aaliyah Alleyne adding the finishing touches with a brisk 20 not out.

In response, Pakistan Women faced an uphill battle from the outset, losing half their side with only 95 runs on the board in 27.2 overs. Despite valiant efforts from Aaliya Riaz and Fatima Sana, who shared a 41-run partnership for the sixth wicket, Pakistan Women struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. Muneeba Ali top-scored with 38 runs, but their efforts fell short as they were eventually bowled out for 190 in 47.5 overs.

A stellar bowling performance from the West Indies Women, led by Aaliyah Alleyne, Hayley Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor, ensured they maintained control throughout the innings, restricting Pakistan Women to a below-par total.

With this victory, West Indies Women clinched the series 3-0, further solidifying their position in the ICC Women’s Championship standings. Pakistan Women, despite their efforts, remained in fifth position, while the West Indies moved up in the rankings.

As the focus shifts to the upcoming five-T20I series between the two sides, cricket enthusiasts can anticipate more thrilling encounters at the National Bank Stadium starting on 26th April. With both teams eager to make their mark in the shortest format of the game, fans can expect a riveting contest under the lights.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions throughout the series, Hayley Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match and Series accolades, reaffirming her status as a key player for the West Indies Women’s team.
