Bismah Maroof Bids Farewell to Cricket – A Glorious Career Comes to an End

Former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Bismah Maroof has declared her retirement from all forms of cricket, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned nearly two decades.

Making her ODI debut against India in 2006 and her T20I debut against Ireland in 2009, Maroof went on to become one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricketers, representing her nation in a staggering 276 international matches. Her international journey boasts an impressive tally of 6,262 runs, including 33 half-centuries, and 80 wickets with her right-arm leg-spin.

Reflecting on her decision, Maroof expressed gratitude to her family, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), loyal fans, and teammates for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She particularly acknowledged the PCB’s implementation of a parental policy, which allowed her to balance motherhood and cricket, a testament to the board’s commitment to supporting female athletes.

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket at the PCB, commended Maroof’s invaluable contributions to Pakistan women’s cricket, expressing heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the board. Mallick wished Maroof success in her future endeavors, acknowledging her significant role in the team’s achievements over the years.

Maroof’s illustrious career includes leading Pakistan to two Gold Medals in the Asian Games (2010 and 2014) and captaining the side in numerous ICC Women’s World Cup and T20 World Cup tournaments. Her leadership and batting prowess have left an indelible mark on Pakistan cricket, inspiring generations of aspiring female cricketers.
