Jawa Foods Takes on Pakistan’s Hidden Hunger with Jawa WheyFlow

In a significant move that blends consumer convenience with public health strategy, Jawa Foods has officially launched Jawa WheyFlow, a fortified whey-based drink now available in 300ml bottles across its outlets in Lahore. Available in two distinct flavours—Mango and Strawberry—the beverage is more than just a refreshing treat; it is a targeted intervention against some of Pakistan’s most persistent nutritional deficiencies.

While the vibrant packaging and the familiar taste of Chaunsa mango or bright strawberry appeal to the palate, the formulation of Jawa WheyFlow is rooted in hard data. The company has deliberately fortified the drink with Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Iron, and Zinc—four micronutrients that the National Nutrition Survey 2018 identified as critical shortfalls in Pakistani households. The survey revealed alarming statistics: 53.7% of children aged 6 to 59 months suffer from anaemia, alongside 43.0% of non-pregnant women of reproductive age. Furthermore, 51.5% of young children are deficient in Vitamin A, while zinc deficiency affects 18.6% of children and 22.1% of women.

According to Jawa Foods, the decision to fortify was a strategic choice rather than a simple flavour enhancement. The drink contains whey protein and is formulated with reduced sugar, positioning it as a suitable option for everyday hydration rather than just sports nutrition.

Asad Ur Rehman Jawa, Chief Operating Officer of Jawa Foods, emphasized the company’s forward-thinking approach:

“We chose to fortify rather than simply flavour. Vitamin A, vitamin D, iron and zinc are where Pakistani households are most consistently short, and a drink people already want to buy is a better way to deliver them than one they have to be persuaded into. WheyFlow starts in our own outlets so we can watch how it sells and how it holds up in Lahore summer before we widen distribution.”

The product is manufactured at the Jawa Foods plant in Lahore. The Mango variant draws its flavour profile from the premium Chaunsa mango, offering a rich and authentic taste, while the Strawberry variant provides a bright and refreshing alternative for consumers seeking a lighter option.

Currently, Jawa WheyFlow is exclusively available at Jawa Foods outlets, with wider retail distribution currently under review pending the initial market response and product performance.
