Visa Unlocks the Era of “Agentic Commerce” with New AI-Powered Payment Suite

In a move that signals a fundamental shift in how the world shops, Visa Inc. has officially launched Intelligent Commerce Connect. The new solution, unveiled today, is designed to bridge the gap between traditional retail and the rapidly expanding world of AI-driven shopping agents.

As autonomous AI agents—programs capable of making decisions and executing tasks for users—become a staple of the digital economy, Visa is positioning itself as the primary “on-ramp” for this new frontier.

We are moving past the era of clicking “Add to Cart.” Today’s consumers are increasingly delegating tasks to AI agents that can find the best price, check availability, and now—thanks to Visa—securely finalize a purchase.

Intelligent Commerce Connect acts as a universal bridge. It allows businesses to accept “agentic transactions” through a single integration, ensuring that whether a human or a bot is doing the buying, the payment remains secure and seamless.

“Intelligent Commerce Connect brings trusted payment infrastructure into the emerging world of AI-driven commerce,” said Leila Serhan, Senior Vice President & Group Country Manager for Visa (NALP). “We are enabling businesses to let AI agents buy on behalf of consumers, securely and at scale.”

The platform is built to be “agnostic,” meaning it works across various networks and protocols to ensure maximum flexibility for merchants and developers.

  • Universal Compatibility: Works with major network token providers and supports multiple agent protocols (such as MPP, ACP, and UCP).

  • Inventory Visibility: Merchants can make their product catalogs discoverable directly within AI platforms, allowing bots to “see” and select items for consumers.

  • Security & Compliance: Leveraging the Visa Acceptance Platform, the system manages PCI compliance and secure tokenization, protecting sensitive data during bot-led transactions.

  • Cross-Network Support: In a rare move for inclusivity, the platform enables agents to pay using both Visa and non-Visa cards.

The technology is not just a concept; it is already in the hands of industry leaders. Visa confirmed that the platform is currently in pilot with a diverse group of partners, including:

Category Partners
Cloud & Tech Giants AWS (Amazon Web Services)
Retail & Real Estate Aldar
Fintech & Enablers Highnote, Mesh, Payabli, Sumvin, Diddo

For the average consumer, this means your future AI assistant won’t just suggest a pair of running shoes; it will have the “clearance” to buy them for you based on your predefined spend controls. For businesses, it opens a massive new sales channel where the “customer” is an algorithm optimized for efficiency.

As this technology rolls out to more partners throughout 2026, Visa is effectively setting the standard for how machines will trade with one another in the global marketplace.
